The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has an excellent collection of nature photos including most common birds, reptiles, and mammals as well as plants at their digital image library. Almost all of the photos online are in the public domain and can be downloaded and used in reports and projects without requesting special permission. They ask only that you give credit to the USFWS and the photographer whose name is listed with the photo.

The Pictorial Archive Series produced by Dover Publications is another valuable source of illustrations and information. In addition to their excellent selection of high-quality coloring books, they have electronic "clip art" on CDs which can be used directly on your computer if you don't have a access to a scanner. You can see all their publications online at www.doverpublications.com although sometimes amazon.com will have the same title at a slightly lower price. Many brick and mortar bookstores carry selected Dover titles as well.
