Europa, guest conductor Keitaro Harada
The opening concert of the symphony's sixteenth season will feature works by European composers, both classical and contemporary. Smetana's The Moldau and Tchaikowsky's Marche Slav provide a taste of Eastern Europe followed by music of Schubert, Berlioz and Weber and topped off with a modern touch by Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera. Appearing as guest conductor will be the energetic young Keitaro Harada who won a standing ovation from the Sierra Vista audience last spring when he appeared at the March concert. The pre-concert lecture by Dave and Jean Perry will begin at 12:15 p.m.
Friday, January 21, 7 p.m.
Latin Dreams/Latin Nights
Warm up the winter night with exotic Latin music. The orchestra takes on Spanish themes with Chabrier's Espana, Bizet's Carmen Suite, and Copland's El Salon Mexico. Harpists Dr. Carol McLaughlin and Brazil's Gustavo Beaklini will perform Elias Parish-Alvars' Concertina for Two Harps.
